The show “Lucid Dreams” is an immersive experience where audiences are taken on a journey through dreams. Ensemble of actors creates a strange world of dreams that is full of symbols, illusions and grotesque imagery through movement, contemporary dance and work with masks and objects. 26 audience members at a time enter theatrical space and participate in the action while interacting with actors and experiencing different dream worlds from the inside.

The story is based on children’s research of their own dreams that they studied for many months, then analyzed and explored through physical work on stage. This piece is created from children’s desperate desire to connect, find that “electricity” that brings people together, makes them care about each other, experience breathtaking flights, discover new boundaries of the universe, and feel the unrestrained need to share their discoveries with the whole world.

The show is presented by our Senior Acting Class. After premier in Ottawa, “Lucid Dreams” will travel to Germany to represent Canada at the 15th World Festival of Children’s Theatre!

Обувь оживает прямо в руках у детей, превращаясь в удивительных персанажей, которые ходят, разговаривают, танцуют, ссорятся и мирятся, радуются и грустят, живут своей необыкновенной башмачной жизнью.

In no way being deaf limits the artistic expression of the troupe of child actors from Russia. In many ways, their unique perspective on the world – one without sound – informs their art and their performance.

In Wings For Clowns, the actors use the language of motion to deliver several miniature performances featuring archetypal characters such as Pierrot, Harlequin, Columbine, Old Man and Old Woman. Trees, Sea, Wind and Rain are the main heroes of the performance. Through these characters the inner life of each performer is revealed and the audience is engaged.

Between the spectators and actors emerges a unified area of co-participation, co-creation, co-experience: this is the marvelous effect of “Piano” that strives to repeat it again and again.

The “Piano” Theatre began in 1986 at the Nizhny Novgorod (Russia) boarding school for deaf children and has participated in more than 50 international festivals, 5 world festivals in 15 countries including Russia, Germany, USA, Luxembourg, Finland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Austria, Canada.

* Shows are suited for adults and children ages 7 and up.

“The Legend of Parvana Lake”/ “Легенда о Неугасимом Огне”
by Advanced Acting  class
Directed by Ekaterina Vetrov
An original show presented in Ottawa just once before it takes off to the World Festival of Children’s Theatre in Startford, ON in June 2016!

“Legend of Parvana Lake” tells a story about a beautiful Princess who decided to choose a husband by setting a challenge to the knights to find the Eternal Flame and bring it to her. But years pass, the Princess waits and waits looking through the windows of her castle, but none of the men come back… When the Princess losses her hope she starts crying. Her tears flood the valley and the castle creating a lake that is clear like a child’s tear. What happened to all those brave men and why didn’t they come back?…

This magical legend told through poetic text carries an ancient story about creation of one of the most gorgeous lakes in Georgia – Parvana Lake. The show incorporates the styles of physical theatre, shadow theatre and contemporary dance.
Actors use Russian, English and Armenian languages to tell this story, but most of all – their body language.
